26 January: Sunday. Sky cloudy in the morning; wind strong and very cold out of [the] northwest. At seven thirty, −3 1/2°F [−19.7°C]. We worked at home. Noon sky fairly clear; the wind, very strong and cold out of the northwest, drove the snow through the air. A single Indian came into the fort and received [something] to eat. At twelve thirty, 2 1/2°F [−19.2°C]. Síh-Chidä came in the afternoon. The wind abated toward evening; then [it was] completely calm, clear, cold, [and] bright like daylight, with the most beautiful full moon and stars.
