A Mouse

Description

Maximilian, Bodmer, and Dreidoppel left Buffalo, New York, for Albany and descended the Hudson River to New York City, where they prepared to embark for Europe. On July 16, 1834, they set sail from New York harbor and arrived on August 8 at the French port of Le Havre. None of them ever again visited North America. According to its dated inscription, this small study of a mouse, apparently a European species, was made following the artist’s return home from his adventures abroad.
