Prairie Wolf

Description

A considerable part of Maximilian's journal relating to the stay at Fort Clark over the winter of 1833-34 describes his observations of the Indian tribes of that region. Likewise, most of Bodmer's studies at this time pertain to Indians. The artist did, however, produce a few sketches of animals in this vicinity, including this head of a prairie wolf or coyote dated "Winter of 1833-34." The subject was probably a captured or killed specimen.
