Mandan and Hidatsa Figures
Description
The two sketches identified as "Monitarri" (Hidatsa) in this plate may be related to the portrayal of the scalp dance in Tableau 27 of the aquatints. The Mandan Weib ( "Mandan woman") is carrying a burden basket on her back similar to the one seen hanging from a post in a Mandan house in Plate 300. The dog at the bottom is in travois harness.
