A Burro

Description

Bodmer's watercolor study of a burro, a pack animal commonly employed by fur traders on the upper Missouri during the first half of the nineteenth century, is the only representation of a beast of burden other than the dogs pictured in some of the Indian sketches to be found in this collection of Bodmer's North American studies. The subject was observed by the artist at Fort Union during the fall of 1833 on the return voyage downriver from Fort McKenzie.
