Strange Sandstone Formations on the Banks of the Upper Missouri

Bodmer's views of unusual formations along the banks of the upper Missouri in August, 1833, still offer interesting subjects for study today. Several of these were featured in part or in whole in the atlas of plates published in Europe in the years 1839-43. Few of them are clearly identified by inscriptions as to exact location, although several are noted in Maximilian's journal by letter or number designations.
