10 May: In the morning, via Delft to The Hague. Beautiful city, full of splendid shops. Scheveningen; strange costume of the fishermen there. Shell figures in several stores. The dunes, a distant, extensive view. Wild, dreary view of the sea; brisk wind, cold. Large gulls (Larus glaucus) everywhere. It is ebb tide. Drive back through The Hague and to Haarlem. The dunes always visible. Temminck's country house, Wild-Lust. to the left beside the road. Many other beautiful country homes and gardens. The Haarlemmermeer. Night at Haarlem.
