Homachséh-Katatóhs, Piegan Blackfeet Man

Description

This man, whose name means "Great Star," was painted at Fort McKenzie in late August, 1833. He is wearing what appear to be lengths of metal chain as earrings and a plain hide shirt. For the portrait, Bodmer made him take off what was probably his brightest bit of finery that day: a European plumed postillion's hat.
