Natoië-Poochsen, Piegan Blackfeet Man

Description

Natoië-Poochsen (""Word of Life"") was an uncle of the man pictured in the previous plate. At the time they were painted, both men were in mourning for a young relative who had been murdered. To indicate the depth of his grief, the old man not only wore plain clothing but also had cut his hair and smeared his head and body with gray-white clay.
