3 October: Rain and bad weather; very cool, in addition. Almost all of us had head colds or rheumatic sensations because of rapid changes [in the weather]. We worked on the descriptions and sketches of the Aspidonectes and the Ohio salamander (Menopoma Harl.) and packed a collection of Ohio mussels (Unio), of which twenty-four species are said to be here. We had found most of them.
