The wind blew stormily all day long. Much ice [near] the riverbank broke loose. It was not cold. The news came that Assiniboines had killed [some] beaver-hunting Mandans and captured a woman. At twelve o’clock, 50 3/4°F [10.4°C]. Wind west. About evening the wind abated a little; in the evening, colder. Some frost during the night. At nine o’clock the thermometer [was at] the freezing point. The schähä́ckäs barked next to the fort in the night. [A] very strong night wind.
