[It was] very cold, the air filled with ice particles. Cháratä-Numakschi came into the fort early; later Mató-Tópe [came]. I described the gopher. In the afternoon, the wind [was] very cold and strong out of the west [—-—]. At twelve thirty, 24°F [−4.4°C]. In the afternoon the cold broke. By two thirty it was already 4°F warmer than at twelve thirty (28°F [−2.2°C]) [and] no longer cold. The wind was very strong and drove the snow into the air. Síh-Chidä visited us.
